The step now for the better future

Varnasrama is a very powerful model for running the society; everyone will be happy in their lives and they will be successful both materially and spiritually. Krishna consciousness along with varnasrama dharma is an ultimate combination for delivering the whole world, for the betterment of the entire mankind. But what is the step now for the better future? From what I have heard from great souls and from what I understood from my scriptural study I have listed down a few steps within my comprehension.

1. Huge outreach:- We have to reachout the scriptural message to all different kinds of people. It shouldn't just go to one section of people. The message should go to all the leaders of society firstly. In Srimad Bhagavatam it is mentioned that the parents, teachers, heads of state and the king are the natural leaders of the society. So, firstly they have to understand how to live their lives in a god conscious way. They should understand the religious principles and they have to live by them and teach it to their dependents. Collectors, ias officers, village sarpanchs, doctors, police, lawyers, mass media etc. In this way large mass of people should be touched. That will create a wave of change in the thought process of people.

2.  Make all people god conscious:- People should be taught to see every living being as part and parcel of God. Srila Prabhupada gives the "peace formula" in the Bhagavadgita. bhoktaram yajna tapasam sarva loka maheswaram.. this understanding has to be given to everyone. It is very crucial for the society to become happy and peaceful. Everyone should recognize that the Supreme Lord is the actual enjoyer, the proprietor, the well wisher, the protector and maintainer of all living beings. This level of God consciousness can be accepted by large number of people. Higher and higher understanding of God will be accepted by a lesser percentage of people who have got more faith. However, everyone in varnasrama will gradually and eventually develop higher and higher faith and understanding of God consciousness.

3. Not everyone will be able to follow the brahminical standards:- We must understand that people are in different modes of material nature. Though bhakti is a very powerful process which can very quickly elevate anyone to the standard of a vaisnava who is even above a brahmana, we must understand that not everyone needs to become a 'brahmana' vaisnava. There have to be vaisnavas of all other categories as well - ksatriyas, vaisyas and sudras. And not everyone can become a vaisnava so quickly. Their faith maybe mixed up with other demigods as well, as it was in the Vedic culture. However, as long as they are following religious principles and have god consciousness they will help in peaceful running of society. So we have to understand the broad varieties of faiths of people and the different modes which they are situated in. Therefore, we have to give people standards that they will be able to practice according to their level.

4. Increase people's appreciation for Vedic culture:- People should understand how in the Vedic times everyone did their respective duties for the overall well being and proper functioning of the society. There was a sense of servitude and sacrifice. There was no sense of selfishness and greed. Vasudaiva kutumbakam. All the living entities are one family of God. There was sensitiveness towards all other living beings. This kind of consciousness is very much conducive and in fact necessary for advancing spiritually. There was a sense of sharing one's resources with others. If you are blessed with something more you share it with others those who need it. Because everything belongs to God and we are just the caretakers of what belongs to God. And our responsibility is to use it in his service and his children. This spirit is fundamental to establishing varnasrama.

5. Everyone should be made to participate in the sankirtana yajna:- The method prescribed for this age is the 'sankirtana yajna' without which we cannot counteract the effects of Kali. We have to make people come together and chant the Hare Krishna Maha mantra. And people should also regularly chant on daily basis, whatever amount of time they can give. This will purify the hearts of people. Mere scriptural knowledge will not help to transform people. People have to practice the chanting of Hare Krishna. Those people of other religions can chant their respective Holy names of God. They need not be forced to chant Hare Krishna. When people chant Hare Krishna then it makes the whole world auspicious. Everyone will not be able to appreciate the depths of chanting Hare Krishna. However, even if they chant Hare Krishna as a yajna, a sacrifice, with intention to satisfy the Supreme Lord for the welfare of oneself and humanity, it is good enough.

Param vijayate Sri Krishna sankirtanam!!!

bahvarambhe laghu kriya: Chanakya Niti explanation by Srila Prabhupada

In this blog I am going to present some Chanakya niti and I was thinking about explaining them. Then I thought who could be a better person to explain than Srila Prabhupada. So I searched for Srila Prabhupada’s explanations of Chanakya niti. There are many wonderful explanations of Srila Prabhupada in his lectures and books. I chose one such to present in this blog. When you hear the explanations from Srila Prabhupada they are very very sweet; giving his own personal experiences into it. We will be able to appreciate the subject in a much better way. I am going to present one sloka of Chanakya niti quoted by Srila Prabhupada which I really laughed to myself when I read the explanation of Prabhupada on it.  rsi sraddha aja yuddhe prabhate megha garjane dampatya kalahe caiva bahvarambhe laghu kriya TRANSLATION “The funeral ceremony of a sage who died in the forest, a fight between two goats, a thunder clap in the morning, a quarrel between husband and w...

My learnings from Chanakya's Niti-sastra

The other day being interested to read, I downloaded a copy of Chanakya-niti-sastra from ISKCON desire tree. It is a very nice translation by one of ISKCON devotees, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. The reason I wanted to learn Chanakya niti is because firstly Srila Prabhupada used to quote Chanakya pandit many times in his lectures. We know the most quoted ones are matravat para daresu paradravesu lostravat…, ayusah ksana ekopi na labhyah svarna-kotibhih..,putra hinam grham sunyam etc. In Srila Prabhupada lectures and books we can see numerous places where Prabhupada quotes moral principles mentioning Chanakya pandit. The author of this translation also mentions in the introduction that Srila Prabhupada had expressed a desire that Sri Chanakya Niti-Sastra be properly translated into English. Secondly why I wanted to read this book is that devotees are expected to be intelligent even in worldly dealings. We see even our acharyas like Srila Rupa gosvami, Sanatana gosvami, Jiva g...

What is varnasrama? (General perspective)

Varnasrama in a nutshell means performing ones duties according to ones nature and work. Everybody has got a particular nature according to ones past karmic activities and also according to what one associates with in this lifetime as well. This is actually the secondary nature whereas the primary nature is that of the soul, but because of the bodily identification the secondary nature becomes very prominently functional and the primary nature of the soul is very much covered up. The goal of our life should be to revive our primary nature which is what we call as self realization by which one can become free from the innumerable sufferings of this world and be situated in ones natural position as a servant of God as sat-cit-ananda.. eternal, full of knowledge and bliss. But reviving our primary nature is a gradual process and the identification with the gross and subtle bodies which has been there from many lifetimes does not go away so fast. For that one has to do two things simul...
